DEREK VAN CHOICE:
Picking up guitar at age four, Derek has spent more
than three decades writing, composing, performing,
and exploring the sonic depths of most every instrument
crossing his path, being most intrigued by those
from the East. In the 1990's, his main focus was
commercial score and studio guitar work, while still
continuing to produce and release his own, independent
CD's.
In
1999, he founded "Funk
Logic",
a company based in northern coastal San Diego County,
manufacturing an eclectic line of studio rack filler
panels, which he continues to operate today. In
2001, he founded the radio controlled model aircraft
company "North
County Flying Machines",
which was recently acquired by another, local R/C
manufacturing company.

A constant throughout, has been all things music
and visual arts,
with underlying influences heavily rooted in Asia
and Africa. His artwork has been displayed in local
galleries, in addition to a number of private commission
works, as time allowed. More recently, has been
a deep immersion into the ever-humbling instrument
known as the "shakuhachi", an end-blown,
Japanese bamboo flute. The shakuhachi is, arguably,
one of the most difficult instruments on the planet
to master (if ever), and equally as hard to build.
Nonetheless, the journey had begun, and Inga
Shakuhachi
was born.
Ironically,
mutual interest in the shakuhachi was the original
conduit to Rhythmlake coming into existence. Also
being rooted in "water, wood and stone",
it has allowed projects of similar elements to materialize,
and the opportunity to combine that essence with
the audible and visual art of videography, and everything
that Rhythmlake Media encompasses.
